April 29th, 2021 - Somewhere in Colorado -- Silt Colorado
Went to Vail, Colorado. Last year, I found a sweatshirt with the VAIL logo in the house I worked in, and took it. It was too ratty to keep, and I wanted to find another one - black with white block print - in Vail. The sweatshirt search was as disappointing as the town. We were in the off-season between the winter and summer. Bavarian architecture against snowy mountains. The wood in some shops were delicately carved, and the view seemed straight out of a postcard of a swiss village under the Alps. We saw a clock strike twelve noon and two statues of a king and queen came out of the little wooden doors, while the song Tomorrow from Annie played on chimes.
Each shop had typical gift shop items and every restaurant was closed. Many stores seemed to be geared towards upper-class customers - precious stones made into tables with no price tag, expensive sportswear shops dedicated to leather boots or ski goggles. The streets were mostly empty, except for a group of children speaking what might have been French and a couple who admired our doggy stroller. We drove towards a town called Silt and passed an Exit sign on the highway with “No Name” in the place of the town.
You guys are visiting a lot of places I would never think of putting on one of our itineraries. So exciting!
