May 26, 2021 Day 39: Oklahoma City, OK
Updated: Jun 5, 2021
We went to an art installation called MixTape at Factory Obscura. This was similar to the Meow Wolf, but as my dad calls it, compressed five times. There was less of a story, but still tunnels of pink fabric, a bedroom with karaoke on the mirror playing nineties songs with a hairbrush microphone, a kite you could sit on, etc. The lady in the giftshop said this was their first permanent installation.
Later, we went to a wind tunnel flying simulation. You put on a full-body suit, goggles, earplugs, helmet and enter into an extremely noisy plastic tube with an instructor. There’s an enormous fan underneath blowing upward and it’s what professional skydivers use to practice. The instructors can do backflips in the air and all kinds of formations. For us, they helped us adjust our position to float and then bring us up and down spinning around in the tube a few times. When my mom was in there, her mouth was wide open. It get hard to breathe and you can’t hear anything so they all use hand signals to communicate. Must be what superman feels like.
We got lost trying to find our way back to the Szechuan restaurant. My friend entered in the wrong address, then my dad directed us to another wrong restaurant, which was then take-out only, and we ended up circling the entire city for an hour ending up at yet another restaurant.
