May 3, 2021 Day 16: Moab, Utah
Today we went to Dead Horse Point, a state park an hour away from Arches. We mostly looked at the cliffsides into a huge basin. At the bottom in the distance there were blue flat areas which were salt mines for fertilizer. The company had been there before the area became a state park, so they were allowed to stay and use the salt mines for profit.
At night, we drove to hike Devil’s Arch. We tried to beat the incoming dusk - this time, the grey settling into the rocks as we climbed, shadows getting longer. At one point was a long rock scramble at about a 45 degree angle in points. There was a sheer drop off on both sides, with other large rocks bordering. This was exhilarating. We managed to return before dusk, and wind our way across the cliffside in the dark, a long row of headlights tailing our RV.
